Pro Board 2014 Accreditation Training Conference
January 17-18, 2014
Orlando, FL

We are pleased to announce the dates for the 2014 Pro Board Accreditation Training Conference.  We will again include a full schedule of workshops this year.  We are also repeating the well received welcome reception on Thursday evening so that conference attendees can connect with one another before the conference starts Friday morning.  This will be an informal cocktail reception.  Plan to stop by to reconnect with fellow attendees or meet a new conference goer.  Details to follow in conference emails!

The 2014 Conference will be held at a new hotel in Orlando, Florida this year.  The hotel, the Wyndham Grand Bonnet Creek, was built just a few years ago and boasts brand new meeting space just large enough for our group.  While it is located within Disney limits, it is not a Disney property, but has complimentary shuttle service to all the parks and Downtown Disney, which is less than 2 miles away.  Keep an eye out in email for full registration and workshop information next month but mark your calendars today and plan to join us in Orlando in January!
Keynote Speaker: Ben May
Strategic Brand Development for Fire & Rescue Services
Friday, January 17, 2014

While our citizens embrace the fire service in their time of need, they can be less supportive in our time of need.  This is especially true when we need political and financial support. Professionalism is the hallmark measurement the public can use to determine its support of our departments. The Proboard, as an internationally recognized accreditation and certification organization, verifies and ensures this professionalism.  In his keynote Friday of the Conference, May will explore the reasons why brand development and marketing for fire and rescue services can contribute to the Proboard's efforts as it supports the professionalism so critical for the growth and maintenance of the fire service.

A passionate advocate of the fire service, Ben May is an authority on the application of marketing leadership to fire and emergency services. He has been a consultant to the US Fire Administration where he has taught his courses and lectures on marketing management for chief fire officers and fire fighters.  A graduate of the Montgomery County, Maryland Public Service Academy, he was a volunteer firefighter in Montgomery County, Maryland. He was a Fire Commissioner in Woodinville, Washington for six years where he was able to apply his marketing and leadership skills for that department. In 2005, working with the Walt Disney creative team, he initiated an alliance with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and the USFA to develop the largest interactive fire education experience in the world at Epcot® at Walt Disney World Resort, "Where's the Fire?" which receives thousands of guests from around the world annually.

May is an associate member of the National Fire Academy's Society of Executive Fire Officers and the Institution of Fire Engineers as well as a member of the Public Information Section of the Florida Fire Chief's Association and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. He is a member of the Steering Committee of Vision 20/20 responsible for social marketing for national fire protection.  He is a board member of the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes. He has been a contributing editor for Fire House Magazine and Firehouse.Com for the last ten years with his monthly column and blog, Marketing ICS.  May is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of Oklahoma with a BA in Public Affairs and a Master's Degree in International Communications from the American University in Washington, D.C.

Wyndham Grand Bonnet Creek
Wyndham pool Orlando, Florida

The Wyndham Grand Bonnet Creek was built just a few years ago and boasts brand new meeting space, the perfect size for our group.  It is located within a few miles of the Disney Parks and Downtown Disney and offers a free shuttle throughout the day and evening to both.

This year's conference falls over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend so attendees may choose to enjoy Orlando and the area over the long holiday weekend.  The Wyndham is also a part of the Wyndham Vacation Ownership Complex, giving access to all the pools of the other hotels to our hotel guests.  If you are considering bringing family members to the conference to enjoy the area, this may be the year to do so.  The hotel also has "bunk rooms" specifically designed for families, with two queen beds and a set of bunk beds in their own area.  These rooms would be an upgrade to the conference room rate.

The hotel is also adjacent to the Waldorf Astoria Golf Club and the concierge at the Wyndham Grand can make reservations for any guests of the Conference.
