Mike Brackin has accepted a position with the Alabama Fire College in

Tuscaloosa. February 25th was his last day as Director of the Arkansas

Fire Academy. SAU Tech is advertising the position vacancy. Attached please

find a copy of the Position Vacancy Notice. Please note that in order

to increase the applicant pool, the Minimum Qualifications has been amended

to include "any additional education and/or experience may be substituted

for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval of the

Chancellor".

Position Vacancy Notice

 

Associate Vice Chancellor, Arkansas Fire Academy

 

DATE POSITION AVAILABLE:           April 1, 2005

JOB DESCRIPTION:  The Associate Vice Chancellor, Fire Academy is a management/professional position that reports to the SAU Tech Executive Vice Chancellor.  This is a full-time, twelve-month position with full benefits.  The Associate Vice Chancellor will be responsible for the supervision and administration of the Arkansas Fire Academy.  The Associate Vice Chancellor is responsible for establishing and maintaining an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation with the constituent groups served by the Academy.

 

 Specifically, the position assignment includes but is not limited to:

 

1.             Establish long-range goals for the Arkansas Fire Academy with identified objectives that can be measured on an annual basis.

2.             Meet with the various service groups, organizations and fire departments to identify training needs, concerns and serve as a spokesperson for the Academy.

3.             Provide instructional supervision through content review, instructional methods, and planning and on-site instructional evaluations for Fire Academy personnel.

4.             Coordinate budget management with the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration.  Provide long range fiscal planning and budgeting.

5.             Coordinate the public relations program as identified in the SAU Tech master plan.

6.             Report on Academy operations at meetings of the Fire Protection Services Board.

7.             Assist the Chancellor with legislative liaison duties related to the procurement of state funds for the operation of the Academy.

8.             Maintains operation of remote training sites.

9.             Liaison with technical colleges offering Fire Science instruction.

10.           Manage the Incident Reporting System.

11.           Supervise the Industry Training Program Coordinator.

12.           Provide leadership in maintaining IFSAC and Pre-Board Accreditation certification.

13.           Supervise student residents.

14.           Work cooperatively with the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs to promote the Associate degree program in Fire Science.

15.           Other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: **

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college; a minimum of ten years experience in fire service at increasing levels of responsibility, including five years experience as a staff officer or in a supervisory position; Firefighter II or equivalent certification, budget management, and public relations experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree, Fire Service/EMS/Haz-mat experience, instructional experience.

 

Salary:                          $65,000
